Woodrow Wilson Goode, Sr. (born August 19, 1938) is a former Mayor of Philadelphia
(1984-1992). He was the
first African American t
o hold that office.
Goode was also a community activist, chair of the state Public Utility Commission, and managing director for the City of Philadelphia.
Original photo, gloss suface, b/w, 5x8 (image 4

½), is inscribed and hand-signed by Wilson Goode using a felt-tipped pen, in bright blue ink: "To Vxxxd/Best wishes/(signed) W. Wilson Goode".  The signed photo was accompanied by a typed letter, 8
½x11, on official City of Philadelphia mayoral letterhead, dated September 21, 1984, with embossed seal, and signed by the Chief of Staff
.  Only one owner and the signed photo and letter have been superbly preserved over the years.  In very fine condition.
