Stunning Antique 1891 English Sterling Silver Elkington & Co Centerpiece Bowl
Presented is a very nice English sterling silver footed bowl by Elkington & Co. This piece dates to 1891. The bowl is quite ornate, with festoons and large acanthus leaf designs and various bands of decorative patterns around the mouth. There are two handles which are set into the mouths of lion head masks. In a larger wreath of oak and laurel leaves and acorns is a monogram of NBK above the date 1933. The interior of the bowl has an attractive light gold wash. The sides of the bowl are quite high and curve inward, so it would be suitable as a fruit bowl or centerpiece bowl. A very handsome and well made piece of silver.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the city of Birmingham, the date letter r for 1891, and the maker's mark for Elkington & Co Ltd.
This piece is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The bowl stands approximately 4 1/2 inches tall. The diameter of the bowl is approximately 7 inches.
This piece weighs 687 grams or 24.1 regular ounces.
