In 1915, a separate battalion was formed to Guard the Headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief in connection with the inauguration of the Commander-in-Chief of the top Nicholas II.
July 8, 1916 by order # 763 of the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Headquarters to the Commander -in-Chief , a separate battalion for the protection of the headquarters was renamed the St. George’s Cavaliers- lower ranks and Officers awarded St.George’s crosses, medal’s and orders.
The battalion received its own insignia cockades , epaulettes and the emblems.
