Richard Rugg II GEORGE III Sterling Silver 8" Tray / Salver, c. 1778

This listing is for a lovely late 18th Century George III Sterling Silver footed tray/salver by Richard Rugg II, c. 1778.
The tray has a classic scalloped beaded edge with a ribbon swag on the inside border and an engraved lion armorial in the center. Tray sits on four tall ball and claw feet. The silver is marked with English hallmarks for London, Sterling, date letter for 1778 with maker's stamp for Richard Rugg. Richard Rugg registered his stamp in 1754 and was known for making quality trays/salvers. His son, Richard Rugg II apprenticed to his father in 1763 and although this mark was registered to Richard Rugg, it was probably the mark used by his son as Rugg Sr. is believed to have died in March 1775.
Measures 1" high and 8" in diameter. Weighs 395 grams.
This lovely tray is in very good to excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws although there are some faint no-harm surface scratches in the flat surface of the tray from normal wear.
