WASP pens were made by Sheaffer during the late 30s and early 40s as a way of competing with the lower priced fountain pens in the marketplace. The name WASP is an acronym for William A. Sheaffer Pen. WASP quickly became favored pens among the young, not just because of their affordability but also because of their attractive patterns, like "circuit board" and "birdseye."
