Description
This black Sentinel pen and pencil set is in very good restored condition. No dings in the pen cap but the gold cap band has three tiny marks on the back and one on the front (please see the photos). I have discounted the price to account for these.
Otherwise, the pen and pencil are free of defects.
The mechanical pencil is excellent--propels and retracts as designed, has a new eraser, and has 3 extra leads in the storage area. The gift case is only fair due to an ink stain on the lining shown in one of the photos. The original Sheaffer Snorkel instructions leaflet is excellent. There is also an original business card from the 1950s, probably from the store in Chicago that sold the pen (note the 5-digit telephone number).
This Version of the Snorkel
Sheaffer's Snorkel Sentinel is a White Dot model featuring a 14k gold Triumph nib with platinum mask. Other premium features include a stainless steel cap with gold-filled cap band and a gold-filled, spring loaded clip.
All restorations include
disassembly, cleaning,
replacement of all seals and the sac,
smoothing and adjusting the nib,
refinishing the plastic, stainless steel, and gold-filled surfaces,
filling the pen with ink (not just dipping)
and producing multiple writing samples over 2 days (like the ones in the photos).
