    Description

New Zealand Salvation Army challenge coin produced around 2009 for the Wellington South Salvation Army Band. Made of brass with enamel colouring, and made in Singapore by ELM specifically for the band.
Eng Leong Manufacturing have made many of the challenge coins currently in circulation with the New Zealand Defence Force, and the their initials 'ELM' are visible on the edge of this coin.
The brass version here was for giving as a gift to people who had hosted band members or helped the band.
The coin is noted in the current reference book, 'New Zealand Challenge Coins, 2nd Edition' by Hamish McMaster and Martin Purdy, both members of the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand. Its noted as ref NZCC/SAL/1
One of a number of Challenge Coins I hope to list over the coming months, many military (including NZSAS) and civilian issues.
