Description

Unique collection of pre-Civil War autographs of New York senators!
Includes autographs of New York governor, mayor of NYC, and clerks.
From March 24, 1856 through the first week of April,
20th District New York State Senator M.L. Lee (R)
brought his own personal autograph book to the chambers and gathered the signature of every seated senator, senate clerks and messengers, and the
NY Governor Myron Clarke and Lt. Governor Henry J. Raymond
(who also co-founded the New York Times).
The autographs are spread over 50 pages, each in a distinctly different hand. Toward the end of the book is a wonderful inscription from
Albert Ruthkay,
messenger of the senate
in his own hand:
"Though I came here a stranger, I found that there are warm friends to the young in this land, and I know that the Senator from the 20th is such a one."
This is a
one-of-a-kind piece of New York history
that would assume pride of place in any serious collection. Offered by an antiquarian bookseller with 20 years of experience and a perfect feedback rating (se above). Authenticy and your satisfaction guaranteed or your money back, of course.
FREE shipping, including insurance for the value of your purchase.
