Edgar Algernon Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 1st Viscount Cecil of Chelwood, (14 September 1864 - 24 November 1958), known as Lord Robert Cecil from 1868 to 1923, was a British lawyer, politician and diplomat. He was one of the architects of the League of Nations and a defender of it, whose service to the organisation saw him awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1937.

a) 4" 1/2 x 7" fully handwritten letter by Lord Robert Cecil with the following text: "9 Aug. 26 - My dear Colleague, Very many thanks for your letter of the 3rd. I am afraid that if the report were made direct to the Council that body would certainly refer it back to the Committee of the Council for report. It would seem therefore that no time would be gained in this way. The alterna-tive seems to be as you suggest that the report should come to the Committee of the Council which might meet to receive it shortly before the meeting of the Council. Yours very sincerely, Cecil".  Condition: Very Good + (Light foxing, mounting remnants on back)

From the collection of Alejandro Zorrilla de San Martin (birth: Montevideo, Uruguay, September 21, 1880 - death: Montevideo, Uruguay: December 12, 1941), who spent over 20 years collecting autographs mainly from prominent political figures worldwide. He used to send blank cards with a newspaper or magazine clipped photo of the person, attaching a letter asking for an autograph and including a self-addressed envelope.
