Description
For sale is an unusual English Georgian Hanoverian sterling teaspoon with a later inscription. The spoon is 4 5/8 inches long and weighs 10 grams. The spoon has long narrow swaged drop and an upturned handle with a “tip”. The spoon is monogrammed “EO” on the handle back. It is also engraved “England / 1812” in the bowl. It is marked with a lion passant and a partial maker’s mark of ?? over “GS”. The piece is a genuine spoon of the mid 18th
C. The style of the bowl engraving is more like late 19
th
or early 20
th
century, so the “1812” date is confusing. I don’t know what to make of it.
Condition on the spoon is good. Aside from the added engraving there is just normal wear. A nice old English spoon!
