    Description

    George III sterling silver covered serving dish. Made by Thomas Robins London in 1814. Rectangular with gently curved sides. Rim gadrooned with corner shell-and-leaf ornament. Cover double-domed with gadrooning. Central cast finial in form of Classical bare-shouldered male bust with beard and circlet over short locks. Finial on gadrooned oval mounted to stippled and overlapping leaves. Gorgeous Georgian for the main course. Fully marked. Cover has retailer's stamp "Lewis London". Finial has London assay stamp and 1827 date letter as well as obscured maker's stamp that begins with letter E.
