    Description

For sale is an antique English sterling silver teapot form vinaigrette or shaker by Saunders & Shepherd.  The piece is about 1 1/8 inch tall by 2 1/8 inches long and weighs 15 grams.  It is formed as a late Georgian tapered drum teapot, and has a lightly gilded interior.  It has a slide-in lid with a mock “hinge” and a hollow tubular spout that does not connect into the body. The lid is pierced for use as a shaker or vinaigrette.  It has never been monogrammed.  The piece is marked on the base with the [CS*FS] maker’s mark of Saunders & Shepherd, with Chester assay marks for 1896-97.  The lid is also marked with a lion passant and date letter
Condition on the piece is fairly good.  There is a broad dent on one side, but it could be improved.  The lid is a bit loose.  Otherwise there are just normal signs of use.  An unusual little item!
