    Legal decree of Francis Hopkinson dated October 16, 1781.
    Manuscript documents in two separate secretarial hands with Hopkinson's autograph at bottom.
    Two sheets, each approximately 12.5" x 7.75".
    Prize judgment regarding the contents of the English 120-ton brigantine York (under Charles Grant, who has also signed the document), which had been captured by the privateer Fair American commanded by Phineas Eldridge. Ruling made by Francis Hopkinson (1737-1791), signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of the Second Contintental Congress.
