August 13,  1789 the Russian rowing fleet under the command of the hero Ochakov Vice  Admiral Prince Karl Nassau-Siegen in the battle of Rochensalm (Finland)  defeated the Swedish galleon squadron Admiral Erensfeld. August 21, 1789  by the decree of Empress Catherine II established a medal for all those  who participated in the battle. On the front side of the breast emblem  of Empress Catherine to the right, with curls falling down on her  shoulders, in a crown, laurel wreath and mantle, with a ribbon over her  shoulder. The inscription along the circle. On the reverse side there is  an inscription in six lines "For bravery / on waters / Finnish / August  13/1789". The size is 39mm. Medals were made of silver. Wore in a  buttonhole on the ribbon of the Order of St. George.
