Description
Up for bid is a fine English George III sterling boat-shaped mustard pot with cobalt glass liner by maker IB, London 1809-10 (I think). The piece is 4 ½ inches long over the handle by 2 3/8 inches wide by 2 ¾ inches tall and the silver portion weighs 137 grams. It has a hinged lid with thumbpiece, decorated with flat chased flowers and berries. The sides have chased cartouches, with flat chased flowers and leaves between. It stands on four ball feet, and has a flat top scroll handle. The interior is lightly gilded, and has its original cobalt glass liner. It has not been monogrammed. The piece is marked on the side near the handle with an [IB] maker’s mark and London hallmarks for 1809-10 (I think), though the date letter is rubbed and it could be something else.Condition on the piece is fairly good. The cutout in the lid has some cracks along the edges and possibly a small added patch. Otherwise there is just normal wear of age, and a couple of tiny flakes to the liner edge. A fine old English mustard pot!
