EVANS OPALINE SWIRL GLASS TABLE LIGHTER EARLY FRANCE PINEAPPLE 1940’s VERY RARE!

This is an exceptional and early exemplar of the Evans figural pineapple table lighter.
Dating to circa the 1940’s the interior is stamped
MADE IN FRANCE DEPOSE
. The Evans name is no where on the body of the pineapple/egg, only on the bottom of the actual lighter. Circa the 1950’s the markings became
EVANS MADE IN FRANCE
.
The ribbed and swirled opaline glass is of the quality produced and utilized in the previous century on the fine items offered by the exclusive and elegant shops of the Palais Royal.
Excellent condition! No chips or cracks to glass.
The metal has developed a delicious patina over the years.
The lighter is not original to the piece. When I purchased the egg it was being used as a trinket box. I added a lighter that I had laying around to complete the piece but it’s doubtful that the lighter would work even if new fuel is added—the bottom is corroded. However, the beauty of the design is that the inside housing is uniform and can accommodate any new /other Evans table lighter insert if you have one, just as I did.
Or use it as a stunning trinket holder. However please note that without the lighter for counter balance you would need to hold the top so it wouldn’t tip over when opened.
This is just gorgeous and could easily pass for an item purchased from a fancy Palais Royal shop and brought home as a Grand Tour souvenir.
