ENGLISH STERLING SILVER GEORGIAN WINE COASTER
MADE BY WILLIAM PLUMBER 1770
Pleased to offer this wonderful example of Georgian silver in the form of a wine coaster. One of the most beautiful coasters I have aquired. Made by William Plumber who was known for his excellent skill at reticulated pieces.
Of classic and standard style, displaying a fine hand reticulated pattern comprised of interconnecting swags and curls that encircle the coaster. A gadrooned swag pattern forms the rim of the piece. The base collar seats well on the circular wood base.  The felt has been replaced at some point. Cartouche is engraved with an arm raised grasping a serpent with the family motto Per Bonum Malumque Fortitine
The coaster measures 5 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall, and sits firm & level. The coaster weighs 189 grams. clearly punched with the lion passant for assayed English silver, a city code of a leopard's head with crown for London, a date letter of "P" for 1770, and a rubbed makers mark showing the P and part of the W for William Plumber.
Absolutely one of the nicest and most beautiful Georgian coasters for sale on eBay!
