    Description

    For sale is an English George III sterling bright-cut sugar tongs of by Peter & Ann Bateman, London, 1806-07.  The piece is 5 3/8 inches long and weighs 23 grams. The piece has oval grips with wriggle-work engraving and straight arms decorated with bright-cut engraving.  It is monogrammed “MD” on the bend.  It bears the [PB/AB] maker’s mark with partial London hallmarks for 1806-07.
    Condition on the tongs is fair.  There is a repair to one grip, as shown, and a small nick and cloudy spot from a silver test.  There is wear from use and some minor handle waviness.  Still an attractive old sugar tongs.
