England Interesting 1810 Sterling Silver Serving Spoon From Alexandria Virginia

$ 34.32

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Refund will be given as: Money back or replacement (buyer's choice)
  • Condition: 6 ¾ inches, good weight of 34.5grams. I left it unpolished as some folks prefer old toning and this has possibly several centuries worth. The date letter (P) dates this to 1810 - 1811, the maker mark is possibly William Bateman ("WB") of London - it has a London city mark. No monograms and showing only modest use - quite functional. Recovered several blocks from historic Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria, one wonders who it could have served, interesting early Americana. A U.S. coin is shown for size scale.
  • Item must be returned within: 30 Days
  • Type: Spoon
  • Return shipping will be paid by: Buyer
  • Restocking Fee: No
  • Pattern: 1810
  • Age: 1800-1849
  • All returns accepted: Returns Accepted

    Description
From a large acculumation of interesting things that my grandson Luke & I removed/recovered in 2007 (basement of an 18th century building on lower Cameron St. in Alexandria, Virginia) an early sterling silver serving spoon dated 1810-1811 - see condition above. This building is only 2 or 3 blocks from historic Gadsby's Tavern, one wonders what stories it could tell - interesting early Americana.  Still unsure (?), see my feedback. Free insured shipping to the USA, .95 uninsured shipping to countries I ship to  -
I no longer ship to Italy.
I combine lots to save shipping costs, if you are unsure about bidding please check my feedback - it dates back to 1998.  If paypal is a problem let me know & we'll work something out, thank you for looking & good luck.  2007lot
    Payment
Paypal is ok, as are other forms of payment (inquire).  If you need a little time to pay, please let me know up front so I won't file a non-payment claim against you.
    Shipping
Shipping costs are generally in the lot description. I use a secure "Safety Mailer" to ship a small number of coins, and a larger padded envelope or priority flat rate boxes for quantity lots. I don't gouge on shipping but I charge a wee bit over the actual postage to cover these costs and cover the 13.5% commission that eBay and PayPal charge me for shipping. I sometimes refund some shipping in cash if I can (if I like your profile & feedback).. I sometimes ship to countries not listed, please email me to confirm.
    Terms of Sale
We would all like to be paid a nanosecond after the auction closes, however if you need a little time let me know. If you would like to wait after winning a lot & combine it with an upcoming lot (saves shipping) let me know. If you want to pick up lots locally (and save shipping) let me know. I accept alternative payment venues to Paypal & sometimes share the savings, email if you need to. I am easy to do business with - I make any mistakes or errors good.
Unfortunately I block bidders that I feel uncomfortable doing business with (unfair feedback, unreasonable returns, fraudulant undelivered lot claims, ect.).
I share blocked bidder lists with other dealers.
