Description
Desmond Fitzgerald (1888 - 1947) - Irish Revolutionary who participated in the 1916 Uprising and later the Irish Civil War. He supported the treaty with Great Britain that created the Irish Free State, becoming its second Minister of Foreign Affairs.Lot comprised by:
a) 4" 1/2 x 5" 3/4 Card with printed photo of the Irish Free State representatives during a funeral procession: Kevin O'Higgins, T. M. Healy, Desmond Fitzgerald and John O'Byrne. Card is signed by D. Fitzgerald in both Gaelic and English language and dated Feb. 24, 1925. Condition: Excellent -
b) Front Cover of Envelope which was used to send the card, postmarked February 24, 1925. Condition: Very Good (Surface tear at middle front area)

From the collection of Alejandro Zorrilla de San Martin (birth: Montevideo, Uruguay, September 21, 1880 - death: Montevideo, Uruguay: December 12, 1941), who spent over 20 years collecting autographs mainly from prominent political figures worldwide. He used to send blank cards with a newspaper or magazine clipped photo of the person, attaching a letter asking for an autograph and including a self-addressed envelope.
