Description
Solid Britannia silver photo frame is marked for London 1986. Britannia Silver is 95.8% fineness (pure silver) versus Sterling which is 92.5% (so sightly softer since less copper).Very ornate - Appears to be a reproduction of a Victorian frame. Backing and stand are very dark blue velvet. For table freestanding -- no hanging hardware.
Hallmarks: Maker's mark M&LS ~ Britannia {not lion passant} ~ London Leopard head ~ Date letter M {1986}. With respect to maker M&LS - No further information known about firm except their marks appeared 1985 to 1991.
Note that I am offering a matched pair of similar frames from the same maker (and from the same estate). Those somewhat smaller frames were purchased from Neiman Marcus and show a 5 price tag.
Dimensions:
Frame itself is 12" tall x 6.25" wide x 1" deep (of which silver portion is approx. 3/8" deep. Accommodates an oval photo 5.5" x 4" wide. When standing, frame extends to 5.5" deep.
Condition:
Excellent giftable condition. No monograms, inscriptions, or engravings. Monograms Inscriptions shown as photographed. Surface patina has light surface scratches commiserate with age and use. No pings, dings, dents, bashes, flat spots, carbon spots, gouges, unusual scratches, or other mentionable issues. Recent thorough hand polish. Glass is free of chips, breaks and cracks. Blue velvet is in good condition, without rips, tears, discolorations, or smells.
Unpacked weight: 12.2 oz.
(avoirdupois, not troy) includes glass and velvet backing. Frame excluding those pieces weighs 190 grams, but silver weight cannot be separately determined.
