Description

Attendance roll for The Melodists' Club, a group of musicians, artists, and other luminaries of the time, who would gather for dinner, then play and listen to musical compositions. This ledger, for the April 3 meeting, is signed by a Benjamin Disraeli. The year is not recorded, but others from this collection were, and all were from the period 1827-28, making Disraeli 23-24 years old at the time of signing, just after he published his first novel!
The roll contains 56 signatures in total.
other signers I've identified are:
Actor/pianist John Orlando Parry
Composer George Rodwell
Merchant Felix Booth, promoter of Arctic exploration who financed an expedition to discover the north pole
Mathematician Augustus de Morgan
Writer William Mudford
(probably) Johan Gottfried Schuncke, musician and father of composer Ludwig Schuncke/Schunke. It could also conceivably be Ludwig Schuncke, which would be a rare and desirable signature given his early death, but I can't find a single example of either J.G. or Ludwig's signature to make a definitive determination.
These are the signers I could identify. There are many I couldn't, and some of these are likely the signatures of other luminaries of the time.
4.5" x 15", Good to Very Good condition.
I've listed several other Melodists' Club ledgers separately.
I guarantee the authenticity of this ledger. If it fails to pass authentication at any time, return for a full refund, including your shipping costs. I've been buying and selling autographs for 30 years, I was a feature writer for Autograph Collector Magazine in the 1990, and I've been selling on Ebay since 2001.
