    Description

    Baueda: Hostis -
    15mm Vikings:
    Viking
    Bondi with Swords
Summary: 8 unpainted metal 15mm scale miniatures.
Baueda is a developer of high quality tabletop wargame accessories and miniatures. Want Vikings? Always been looking for incendiary pigs? Emishi? Yaya? You've come to the right place! These days nearly every historical period and geographic area is well covered by different manufacturers in several scales, however "nearly" is not yet "all". At BAUEDA we think that is a shame, so we have introduced this range dedicated exactly to that!
Viking were Scandinavian explorers, warriors, merchants, and pirates who raided and colonized wide areas of Europe from the late eighth to the early eleventh century. These Norsemen used their famed longships to travel as far east as Constantinople and the Volga River in Russia, and as far west as Iceland, Greenland, and Newfoundland. According to custom, all free men (Bondi) were required to own weapons, as well as permitted to carry them at all times. A wealthy Viking would have a complete ensemble of a helmet, shield and chainmail shirt and would be armed with swords, spears, daggers, axes and hammers. Bows were used in the opening stages of land battles, and at sea, but tended to be considered less "honorable" than a hand weapon. Vikings were relatively unique for the time in their use of axes as a main battle weapon. The Huscarls (the elite guard of Kings) were armed with two-handed axes which could split shields or metal helmets with ease.
Besides the Scandinavians themselves, only the British called the marauders "Vikings," and this word may come from vik; or bay, and Viken, as the Oslo Fjord was called, from which the earliest Viking ships emerged. Other authorities maintain that the name came from the Old Norse term i viking, which is the equivalent of "a-raiding," as in "they went a-raiding down the Atlantic coast." But "Viking" was never a blanket term for the whole people of the region until it became a popular, modern misuse.
Designed following the most recent research, dressed and armed appropriately for 750-1050 AD the figures in this range were originally commissioned by Bryan of (now gone) "50 Paces" and sculpted by M. Campagna. Baueda has acquired all rights for it and they are constantly adding on new models! The next additions will include mounted commands, personalities, a full scale (1:100) Snekke with crew, raiders with booty, Valkyries, even the mighty Odin himself, riding on Sleipner and with Gere and Freke to boot!
    15mm Viking Bondi with Swords.
The sword was the weapon of choice of the wealthy warriors and the aristocracy of the Viking Age. The blade was sharp on both edges, around 90cm long including the tang (10cm), with a blade 7 cm wide at the top, tapering to a slightly blunt tip. The sword was a slashing weapon, not generally used for thrusting.
Warriors with sword and shield.  8 figures selected from 4 poses.  One piece metal figures, integral bases.   15mm scale.
    Samples painted by M. Boetti
Pack contains eight Vikings.  Miniatures are supplied unpainted.   Figures are about 5/8" to top of head.
