Arco Dendritic Agate Long Unpolished Slab: Fine Dendrites, Turtleback; Idaho

Description

The area around Arco, Idaho has produced some fantastic agates, particularly noted were the agates with black inclusions. Arco is also near the famous "Craters of the Moon" National Monument and its varied basalt and lava features. This piece has very fine, threadlike dendrites (a term which is used for branched formations resembling shrubs or trees) - some might even call this plume, but I think it is too airy for that. There is also some turtleback and tight fortification lines. I would not be surprised if you found some iris phenomena once you sand it down thinner and polish. Long and lovely.
The photo which includes the measure/ruler was taken dry, the material in the other pictures was dampened to give a better idea of how colors and patterns may intensify once polished. Photos were taken under natural sunlight.
