Description

Presented is an interesting English Georgian sterling silver pot or pitcher, with interior strainer. This piece dates to 1799 and was likely made by Solomon Hougham. The pitcher is done in an unusual style, with an interior straining lip. The front of the pitcher has a nicely engraved cartouche formed by stalks of wheat. The handle has leaf form decorations where it meets the body at the top and bottom.
This piece is in great overall condition. There has been a dent removed from the side near the base, which is not very noticeable from the exterior. There is a small dent to the handle where the finial hits when the lid is opened. There are no splits, no leaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the lid with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter D for 1799, King George III's head duty mark, and the maker's mark of SH, likely for Solomon Hougham. The underside is also marked 'Old Silver.'
This piece weighs 1056 grams or 37.5 regular ounces.
