Description

Presented is a fantastic quality first period old Sheffield silverplate tankard, dating to around 1760-1770. The tankard is done in a classic baluster style, with a scroll handle and shell form thumbpiece. Sheffield plate of this age, quality, and condition, is exceptionally rare, so this is a wonderful opportunity for any collector. This is some of the earliest Sheffield plate you'll probably ever find.
This piece is in great overall condition. The silver plating is in great shape, with no wearthrough. There are a few dings here and there, but nothing of any significance. There are no splits, no breaks, no major dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The tankard is stamped twice around the side under the rim, with a maker's mark that looks like MG and the letter S. This same maker's mark appears on the top of the lid.
The tankard stands about 8 1/2 inches tall.
