Antique 1770s Handsome Sheffield Fused Silver Plate 2 Handle Loving Cup Trophy

Description

Presented is a handsome old Sheffield fused plate two handle loving cup or trophy. This silver plated piece dates to around the 1770s. The cup is beautifully hand chased with classical floral and foliate decoration, with gadrooning around the base. The front side of the cup has a large cartouche, which has never been monogrammed. The handles of the cup are particularly nice, with heart or spade shaped decoration at the lower ends. The cup has an old wooden base inside the pedestal foot, likely original.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is some wear through the silver plating to the copper base, visible on the high points of the decoration, as is typical for silverplate items of this age. There are no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece measures about 8 1/4 inches from handle to handle and stands about 7 inches tall.
