Description
Presented is a lovely Georgian English sterling silver brandy warmer. This piece dates to 1758 and was made by Thomas Whipham II & Charles Wright. The pot is done in a simple yet elegant form, with a side-mounted handle carved from rich dark wood, joining the body in a heart shaped decoration. The pot has a finely engraved crest of a peacock, standing on a ducal coronet, with an earl's coronet above it.This piece is in good overall condition. There are two old solder repairs to the side of the body, which are hard to notice and which do not effect the useability of the piece. The wooden handle is very likely original, although it may have been repinned. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, and no monogram removals.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter c for 1758, and the maker's mark for Thomas Whipham II & Charles Wright.
The pot measures about 11 inches from side to end of handle and stands about 6 7/8 inches tall.
This piece weighs 540 grams or 19 regular ounces.
