GEORGE C. WALLACE
(1919-1998) He was a Governor of Alabama for
four terms (1963-67, 1971-79 and 1983-87). A Dixiecrat,
he ran for U.S. President four times, running
officially as a Democrat three times and in the
American Independent Party once. He is best
known for his pro-segregation attitudes during
the American desegregation period, which he
modified later in life. Typed letter signed,
January 20, 1970, regarding the Boy Scouts.
