How it works:
The beginner Disc is for players that are completely new to the game. The larger hole size allows you to learn the basic fundamentals of your bridge, stroke, and aim; and to confidently hit the cue ball dead center, pocketing balls consistently.
The intermediate Disc has a smaller aiming hole to help you dial in your accuracy, perfect your stroke mechanics, and be able to strike the cue ball exactly where you want.
Moving up to the expert Disc is when things get real. You now move away from center ball hits to take your game to the next level. The hole is off-center to mimic, well, off-center shots. The disc can be rotated to practice bridging and aim for English, follow, and draw. You can also wedge it in a rail, or lay it on a piece of chalk to practice masse or jump positions. It can even be used to practice power break aim consistency.
The key to it all is developing muscle memory, and gaining smooth stroke mechanics that become second nature. As in any sport, performing well in competition is achieved through repetition and developing muscle memory. When it is time to execute, the motion is then natural and automatic and you make the shot without ‘thinking’ about it. This allows you to to concentrate on the lay out of the table and running out!
Billiard Concepts and PerfectaStroke Disc helps you develop consistent stroke mechanics quicker, and shorten the learning curve. Consider this: An advanced player, in practice, may average a rack of 15 balls every 10 minutes (including racking). Assuming there are no misses, that is 90 strokes per hour. With PerfectaStroke Disc, you can stroke every 10 seconds, or so. That’s 360 strokes per hour of practice, without retrieving balls!
PerfectaStroke Disc helps you make the most of your practice sessions and can be used to get needed reps when you aren’t able to get to a billiard table. You can also use it to identify inconsistencies in your stroke and work toward correcting them.
Seasoned players- use it to work out any kinks you have developed in your stroke, fine-tune your aim line, or stay warmed up between matches!
How To Use It:
Simply insert the disc into the stand, and stand it upright on any flat surface. Stroke as if you are hitting a cue ball. Don’t just poke at it, stroke it and follow through. Take a few practice strokes, just as if you are taking aim. Then, stroke the shot.
PerfectaStroke Disc is convenient and portable, allowing you to improve your game virtually anywhere you are. Use it at the kitchen table, a counter top, or even at the office. Grab an extra set or two to challenge friends to a Disc competition during gatherings (who can stroke through the hole the most times before hitting the Disc?).
Seasoned players know that the key to being a better pool or billiard player is repetition and practice. Buy yours today, and you will soon be winning more matches, gaining confidence in your game, and perfecting your stroke... with PerfectaStroke.
Tips To Help Your Stroke and Aim:
Remember to take aim and a few practice strokes before shooting for the hole. Stroke just as you would when striking a cueball. Practice as you play.
Stand up and walk around a bit. Try to imagine you are in a game, looking at the layout. With the same focus you would lend to an actual shot, plant your bridge hand and take the shot through the Disc. Practice different bridge positions and aiming lines, just as if you are striking real balls on a table.
Try to beat your own record. Count how many times you made a successful stroke without knocking down the Disc. Then, try to beat your best score every time. It’s a nice way to stay competitive and push yourself to improve.
Use it often. You’ve probably heard the saying that, ‘It takes 10,000 hours of practicing something to become an expert.’ That definitely applies to cue sports / billiards / American pool. But, don’t be discouraged by that. It takes just 21 to 264 days of repetition to make something a habit. For billiard stroke mechanics, we are asking our muscles to move consistently in a way they never have. It takes time and repetition to learn the new motion and make it a natural habit. Disc helps to shorten this learning curve by packing more reps into your practice time.
Watch lots of online videos. Watch instructional videos and watch pro matches. Try to emulate both and copy what they are doing. You will find tons of different theories on bridging, stroking, and everything else to do with billiards. No single one is right;just that one is right for you. Practice as many as you can, and choose what is most comfortable for
you
and gives
you
the most consistent results.
Use these eight quick corrections to dial in your stroke and aim:
1) Choke up a bit with your back/ rear hand. Your grip should be about 12” to the rear of the joint (middle) of the cue for most shots. You can try other positions once you’ve gained some consistency.
2) Place your bridge hand about 6” to 8” behind the cue ball (or Disc). Again, this is where you want to be for most shots and you can try other positions once you’ve gained some consistency.
3) If you are hitting above the hole, try stepping back an inch or two. The natural arc of your arm swing is causing the back of the cue to drop, raising the tip of the cue before impact.
4) Conversely, If you are hitting below the hole, try stepping forward an inch or two. The natural arc of your arm swing is causing the back of the cue to rise, dropping the tip of the cue before impact.
5) If you are hitting to the left of the hole, you are letting your rear elbow come out away from your body.
6) If you are hitting to the right of the hole, you are tucking your elbow in toward your body during the swing /stroke.
7) Don’t hit hard! The balls weigh less than six ounces. Your 18 ounce cue will have no problem sending the cue ball into motion. This is a game of finesse. The harder you hit the balls, the more other unwanted variables are introduced to the shot (deflection, squirt, etc.) For most shots, nearly as soft as you can possibly strike it is what is needed.
8) This last one involves several things that are extremely vital to a good billiard stroke. Get your head as low as possible, looking through / down your cue shaft toward the cue ball. Keep your cue as level as possible. Keep your head down and stroke through the hole, or cue ball. If you’ve ever played golf, that’s one of the first things they teach you- the same in billiards. Don’t look up to see where the ball(s) went; you’ll see them just fine from where you are. Keep your head and body low and still, and stroke through the ball in one fluid motion.
Use your phone to video yourself. With PerfectaStroke Disc you are able to see where you are missing and help to correct it. You should stroke like you are shooting. Don’t be distracted by counting how many times you’ve successfully hit the hole, or trying to tell where you hit on a miss. You can go back and review your video after every so often and see what you are doing well and what you need to correct.
