Description

Presented is an antique set of English silver and natural material dessert set made by Cooper Brothers & Sons of Sheffield in 1901 and 1903. This set includes 12 knives and 12 forks.
The tines and blades are silver plated but the collars are sterling silver purity and are hallmarked.
The blades are finely hand engraved with lovely designs. The pieces have never been monogrammed. This set comes in its fabulous quality, fitted and lined box to protect the pieces and prevent tarnish. The box has a brass cartouche on the top that has never been engraved and the box can be locked, but unfortunately we do not have the original key.
All of the collars are marked with the crown symbol for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver and a maker's mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons. All of the knives and 5 of the forks bear a date letter l for the year 1903 and 7 of the forks have an i date letter for the year 1901.
This set is in excellent overall condition for its age. 8 of the knife handles have splits and 8 of the fork handles have splits. All of the handles are firm in their collars and the splits are tight. Splits in this material of this age are typical.
Each knife measures 7 3/4 inches long.
Each fork measures 6 1/2 inches long.
