Description
Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver platter or stuffing type serving spoon. This piece dates to 1792 and was made by George Smith & William Fearn. The spoon is a good large size, with a long handle and a distinct downward turn to the terminal. The spoon is well made and sturdy, made from thick, heavy gauge sterling silver.This piece is in great overall condition. There is some very minor rounding to the tip of the bowl. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter r for 1792, King George III's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for George Smith & William Fearn.
The spoon is about 11 7/8 inches long.
The spoon weighs 102 grams or 3.6 regular ounces.
