Description
Presented is a fabulous Georgian English sterling silver coffee pot. This piece is dated 1789 and was made by Abraham Peterson & Peter Podie. The pot is done in a classical tall fluted form, beautifully hand engraved with a continuous band of bright cut decoration around the shoulder as well as around the lid and base. The handle is nicely carved from rich dark wood in a C-scroll shape, with a bold acanthus leaf decoration where the handle joins the body. The lid has a monogram of W in elegant script.This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter O for 1789, King George III's head duty mark, and the maker's mark for Abraham Peterson & Peter Podie. The lid is also hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver.
This piece stands about 11 1/2 inches tall.
The pot weighs 828 grams or 29.2 regular ounces.
